Dog: An Entrepreneur’s Best Friend

I’ve actually had a couple of failed attempts at putting up my own business. My very first venture involved cakes and cookies. It pretty much seemed like a good career move in the beginning since I’ve always had a knack for baking. Then things started to become sour when the anticipated orders didn’t arrive. As it turned out, one of my neighbors was also selling homemade goodies at a ridiculously lower price. I found it futile to compete so I just abandoned my baking business to think of other lucrative projects.

My next business endeavor involved arts and crafts. That didn’t work either. Opportunely, while I was walking my dog in the park, I chanced upon a gold mine. I saw this young woman struggle to keep her playful canine under control while looking after her toddler.

On impulse, I approached her and started a conversation. I found out that she was in dire need of a dog walker, as she would rather have her dog walked by somebody else than leave her kid with a baby sitter. So that was how my thriving dog-walking business was born.

  1. Anything to get your hands into (from cookie jar to dog leash, lol! And you get a lot of exercise as well. :-)

  2. That was a nice story. Good job and good luck to your new business.

  3. That’s great! I’m glad you found a niche that you could really capitalize in!

The problem with so many entrepreneurs is that they don’t keep their eyes and ears open! You’d be surprised what you can learn about the needs of others by just being observant, and even more surprised at what those folks are willing to pay for their needs to be met! For any entrepreneur who is currently not having success, I encourage you just to look around! Even when you’re our running errands, take notice of things that are inconveient for others and research whether or nor there is an opportunity to capitalize. In this economy we all need something to supplement our income. Being observant and being in a constant state of “entrepreneurship” will help you to stay above water and provide recession-proof income you can enjoy!
